I started my professional career looking after two leggeds as an orthopaedic nurse, expanding into remedial therapy and sports massage.
As I have loved animals all my life, however, I gradually changed direction to treat four leggeds instead.
Although I have ridden and competed on horses for 20 years, dogs have been a constant companion and seem to have taken over my life.
Starting with myotherapy, I progressed to animal physiotherapy and later, canine conditioning.
I run agility dogs, currently a Jack Russell Terrier, who is does his best to teach me agility and an enthusiastic young Border Terrier, the JRT and I have competed fairly regularly.
Within the sphere of animal physiotherapy and canine conditioning, I have been lucky enough to support high level agility dogs whilst they develop through their careers assisting to enhance their performance.
As a fully registered animal physiotherapy practitioner I am insured to treat companion animals (dogs, cats and other small animals). I am a member of the International Association of Animal Therapists (IAAT), and the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) which is a voluntary association 'committed to Protecting the Public and their Animals, and Promoting Public Confidence in the Animal Musculoskeletal Occupations'.
Membership of both associations ensures that I remain current within my field of expertise using evidence-based practice whist working under The Veterinary Surgeons Act (Exemption) Order 2015.
The knowledge of diseases and trauma, especially orthopaedic conditions, is enhanced by my nurse training. Having a veterinary surgeon in the house is also a bonus. Being from a medical professional background I also understand the importance of maintaining a professional standards including keeping skills updated, being fully insured and regularly attend continual professional developmental courses.
